GIVE: Get Involved for Veterans
Even when we aren’t on duty, we encourage our team members to engage with each other, their colleagues, and their communities.
DFC isn’t all work and no play – we take the time to enrich our employees’ work-life balance through fun company events and team bonding volunteer opportunities. Through our GIVE (Get Involved for Veterans) Program, our professionals participate in quarterly team volunteer events that make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
DFC’s GIVE program has been nominated three years (2016, 2017, and 2018) in a row for the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s Outstanding Corporate Citizenship Awards and was awarded the Communitas Award for Excellence in Community Service in 2018.
Honor Flights
In support of the Honor Flight Network and in appreciation of those who have served our country, DFC employees have enthusiastically welcomed dozens of World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans to the nation’s capital by greeting them at the World War II Memorial and Dulles International and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airports with handmade signs and personal expressions of thanks.
Team Red, White, and Blue
In partnership with Team RWB, DFC has volunteered at events such as Final Salute, Inc.’s Stand-Up for Women Veterans event, a program intended to support women Veterans and military women who are transitioning into the civilian workforce. DFC also raises funds for Team RWB through our Charity Miles challenge and an end of challenge happy hour where our DFC winners are announced. Team RWB connects Veterans to their community through physical, social, and community service activities.
Wreaths Across America
DFC employees have joined Wreaths Across America as well as thousands of local volunteers at Arlington National Cemetery to honor our fallen heroes by participating in National Wreaths Across America Day and laying remembrance wreaths on the headstones of those who proudly served our country.
Cloverleaf Equine Center
DFC has teamed up with the Cloverleaf Equine Center, who offers comprehensive therapeutic riding programs for Veterans, Servicemembers, and others within the community. The DFC team has helped the center by painting and repairing fences and picnic tables at the Clifton location.
Operation Shoebox
DFC employees donated hundreds of items to support Operation Shoebox, an organization that supports troops deployed overseas and returning home by sending cards and care packages. DFC wrote hundreds of cards to active military members and was able to make dozens of care packages with items from hygiene essentials to games to play to sweet treats like Girl Scout cookies!
Season of GIVEing
In 2017, DFC launched its initial Season of GIVEing Campaign which encouraged all employees to GIVE back to their community during the holiday season. GIVE hosted multiple events for employees to get involved with Veterans and active Military members in the area during the Holidays by supporting multiple charities including: Serving our Willing Warriors (SOWW), Operation Help a Hero (OHH), Wreaths Across America, and A Million Thanks. 5 Years: GIVE Thanks, GIVE Back
2014 marked the five-year anniversary of DFC! In celebration of this important anniversary we expanded our GIVE program by dedicating the entire month of November to giving thanks by giving back. To commemorate each year we have been in business, we completed one service project throughout the month for a total of five projects. Read more about the service projects.
